Consultations cover the procedure. They rarely cover the boring parts, and the boring parts are what people actually struggle with: the garment in August, the follow-up schedule nobody warned them about, the week where the mirror shows nothing. Something else that rarely gets said out loud: ask where the operation physically happens. Here the operating rooms and recovery space are in the same building as the consultation. A great deal of cosmetic surgery in this city is sold at one address and performed at another, and patients find out late. It is an awkward question and worth asking anyway.

A lot of people arrive having decided on liposuction and leave having been told the problem is skin. FlexSculpt, the awake liposuction technique most of the work is built on, removes fat from areas that ignored years of training: abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, arms, under the chin. It is duller than the phrase suggests, and that is the part worth knowing. You are numb, not sedated. The first injections sting for a couple of minutes and that is the worst of it. The room moves faster than you expect and most people forget the thing that had been bothering them for months. Write your questions down. Consultations can start by video, which is how a lot of patients begin, then an in-person assessment follows before anything is confirmed.

Ask about revisions before you book rather than after. What the policy covers, what it does not, who pays, how long the window runs. Contouring settles across months and a small adjustment is sometimes reasonable, but no honest surgeon offers terms that remove risk entirely. An appointment where every answer soothes you is worth less than one where somebody is straight about the limits.

Around week two or three almost everyone hits a slump. The adrenaline has gone, the swelling is still there, and the mirror shows nothing resembling the conversation you had at consultation. It lifts, and knowing it is coming makes it considerably easier. Judge nothing before three months. Most people are back at a desk inside a week and at the gym around four to six.

None of those are hidden, they simply do not appear on the estimate, and patients budget for the surgery and then get surprised by the rest. The number itself follows the procedure, the areas treated and how much work each needs, so anything quoted before an examination is invention.

Raise financing at the start rather than the end. What you can comfortably carry usually decides whether the work happens at once or gets staged across a year, and that is a planning conversation rather than an embarrassing one. On the surgeon: check the licence, ask how often they do your specific procedure, and look at results on people who started where you are starting rather than ten kilos lighter.

Tijuana comes up in a lot of consultations here and deserves a straight answer rather than a dismissal. The advertised price is usually real. What it excludes is aftercare, recourse, and the ability to sit in front of the person who operated on you. Add travel, accommodation, time off, and the cost of revision work, which is harder than getting it right the first time. Ask any clinic what happens if something looks wrong at week three. Worth asking: how many of these has this surgeon done in a normal month. Who is actually operating, and what changes if they become unavailable closer to the date. What would make you refuse to operate on me. Then the practical half, which people skim and should not: pre-op instructions on medication, eating and drinking, and who is driving you home. Most avoidable trouble in body contouring traces straight back to instructions somebody treated as optional.

Plan the first week properly: a ride home, food in the fridge, two or three genuinely quiet days even if day one feels fine. And be honest about your route. In this city the drive is not a distance question, it is a time-of-day question, and the version of it you do at week two while sore is not the version you imagined when you booked.
