Frequently Asked Questions About Our Gaithersburg Clinic

Earlier than the appointment card says, and not because we are strict about it. Arriving with twenty minutes spare means paperwork, marking and photographs happen without anybody rushing. Everything is at 438 N Frederick Avenue, so once you are in the building you are not going anywhere else that day.

Loose clothes that go on over a compression garment, a phone charger, and somebody to drive you home. Skip jewellery and anything you would mind losing. Eat and drink according to the pre-op instructions rather than guessing. Call (301) 979-9696 if anything on the list is unclear.

Mostly dull, which surprises people. The first injections sting for a couple of minutes and that is the worst of it. After that you feel pressure and movement rather than pain. Patients talk, listen to music, check their phone. The surgeon can ask you to shift or stand, which is the point of staying awake.

For most people, yes, because there is no nearer alternative in the network. This is the only Goals clinic in the Washington metropolitan area, and patients come from Rockville, Bethesda, Silver Spring, the District and northern Virginia. It sits off I-270 with parking on site. Avoid booking anything that puts your drive home inside rush hour.

The after-hours number you go home with, and somebody answers it. Day three is when the swelling peaks and people talk themselves into a panic, so calling is reasonable rather than a nuisance. If it looks like a genuine emergency, go to the nearest ER first and tell us afterwards.

Yes, and bring one if you can. Parking is on site with no garage charges, so waiting is easy. You are not permitted to drive yourself home afterwards, so somebody has to collect you regardless. If transit suits you better, Shady Grove on the Red Line is about ten minutes away by car.

A Day at the Gaithersburg Clinic, Hour by Hour

Nobody books body contouring because they read a list of procedures. They book it after working out what the day is going to be like, and most pages will not tell you. So this one walks through it in order: the drive up I-270, the paperwork, the marking pen, the hours in the chair, the drive home you are not allowed to do yourself, and the strange flat week that follows. Everything below happens at 438 North Frederick Avenue, and everything below assumes you are awake for it, because at this clinic you are.

Long before any of the above, there is a consultation where somebody tells you what your body will actually do. This is a contouring clinic first: fat removal, fat transfer, skin tightening. FlexSculpt, Brazilian Butt Lift, tummy tuck, FlexTuck, mommy makeover, breast surgery, gynecomastia correction, plus focused work on arms, chin and neck. Around those sit fat loss shots, J-Plasma, Instant BBL with filler, Votiva, microdermabrasion and PRP facial work.

Plenty of people arrive certain about a procedure and leave pointed at a different one. Fat that will not shift is a volume problem. Skin that stayed loose after a pregnancy or a large weight loss is not, and taking fat out from underneath it can make the looseness louder. Hearing that you need a tuck rather than liposuction is good news wearing bad clothes, and it is the sort of thing that only comes out when somebody examines you.

You arrive, hand over paperwork, and change. Then comes the part nobody photographs: standing in front of a mirror while the surgeon draws on you with a marker. It feels clinical and slightly absurd and it is one of the most important twenty minutes of the day, because those lines are drawn on you upright, with gravity doing what gravity does. Photographs get taken. Then the local anesthetic goes in, and that stings for a few minutes. Most patients are back to light activity within a few days.

Most of what happens next runs through FlexSculpt, the clinic's awake liposuction technique. Small incisions, fat drawn off the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, arms or under the chin. If you are having a Brazilian Butt Lift, that fat does not get discarded. It is purified and placed into the buttocks and hips, including the hip dips a standard Brazilian Butt Lift tends to leave alone.

If your plan involves a tummy tuck or FlexTuck, the morning looks similar but the work underneath is different: loose skin and separated abdominal muscle rather than volume. A mommy makeover deliberately bundles contouring and breast surgery into one planned operation so there is a single recovery instead of two, which is why the marking session for one of those takes noticeably longer.

Duller than you are imagining. Once the anesthetic has taken, what you feel is pressure and movement, not pain. People talk to the surgeon, listen to music, scroll their phone. Several hours pass more ordinarily than the phrase awake surgery suggests, and patients who dreaded this part almost always say afterwards that the dread was the hard bit.

Partway through you will be asked to stand up and turn. This is the part that cannot happen under general anesthesia, and it is the reason the technique exists. A body lying flat and unconscious tells the surgeon very little about how a contour will read when you are upright in clothes. An uneven edge spotted at this moment gets corrected at this moment, rather than at the six-week check when fixing it means operating again.

Not everyone in the building that day is having surgery, incidentally. Some are in for J-Plasma tightening, fat loss shots, Instant BBL with Radiesse, Votiva, or skin work like microdermabrasion and PRP. Those appointments are shorter and involve no recovery to speak of. None of them substitute for surgery when the underlying problem is loose skin or displaced volume, and anyone suggesting otherwise is overselling.

You are not staying the night. Nurses watch your vitals through recovery, you get into a compression garment, and then you go home, usually the same afternoon. There is no slow crawl back to consciousness in a recovery bay because you never left it. Most people report none of the grogginess or nausea that follows general anesthesia, and the lost day on the far side of it simply does not happen.

You cannot drive yourself, so somebody has to collect you. Plan that properly rather than assuming you will feel fine, and if you are heading back toward the District or northern Virginia, avoid booking a slot that drops your drive home into rush hour on I-270. Sore, numb and stationary on a highway is a bad combination and an avoidable one.

The safety argument sits underneath all of this and it is the stronger one. General anesthesia carries documented risk that climbs with weight and age, including blood clots and fat embolism, and those risks are much of why BBL surgery has the international record it does. Removing general anesthesia removes that whole category of complication rather than reducing it.

Swelling and soreness peak around day two or three, and that is when the phone rings. It is also when people who were cleared for surgery start privately wondering whether they should have been. For the record, the bar is reasonable general health, a weight that has held steady, and specific areas that have not responded to diet and training. A high BMI is not an automatic no.

The compression garment attracts more complaints in these first days than the surgery does. It is not optional. It controls swelling and helps the skin settle onto the new contour, and patients who abandon it early are reliably the ones who regret it. Walk short distances from day one, because lying still is worse for you than gentle movement, and it keeps clot risk down.

Call rather than sitting alone with it. Hearing that your swelling is precisely on schedule, from somebody who has watched a thousand recoveries, is worth more than another evening spent searching your symptoms at midnight. That after-hours number exists for exactly this, and using it on day three is ordinary rather than dramatic.

Most people are back at a desk inside a week. Physical work takes considerably longer and gets underestimated constantly. The pre-op and post-op instructions you were given at consultation matter more now than they did when you skimmed them, because most of the avoidable trouble in body contouring traces straight back to instructions somebody decided were optional.

Somewhere in week two or three almost everyone hits a slump. The adrenaline has gone, you are still swollen, and the mirror is showing nothing like the conversation you had at consultation. It lifts. Judge nothing before three months, and if the wait is bothering you, that is a reason to ring the clinic rather than a reason to assume the worst.

If you have not booked yet and are reading this to work out what you are in for, bring your questions to the consultation written down. How many of these has this surgeon done. What does week two feel like. What happens if the result comes out uneven. What would make you refuse to operate on me. An appointment where every answer soothes you is worth less than one where somebody is straight about the limits.

The gym waits four to six weeks depending on what was done. After a Brazilian Butt Lift you cannot sit directly on the buttocks for roughly a fortnight, and that restriction disrupts ordinary life more than any soreness does. Driving, working, eating dinner: all of it has to be rethought around not sitting normally, and people rarely plan for it in advance.

You will be back at North Frederick Avenue several times across these weeks, and at least one of those trips lands while you are still sore and not driving comfortably. Swelling takes months to finish settling, so what the mirror shows at week two is not what you keep. A Maryland summer spent in a compression garment is genuinely unpleasant, so if your calendar has any give, autumn dates are kinder.

Those return trips are worth thinking about before booking rather than after, and for this region the arithmetic is unusually simple. Gaithersburg is the only Goals clinic in the Washington metropolitan area, so the alternative is not another branch across town. It is Philadelphia. That makes the follow-up schedule a straightforward argument for having the work done here.

The shape you keep lands somewhere between three and six months, and patches of firmness can linger past that. Nothing before month three is the finished article. On money: the figure follows the procedure, the number of areas and how much work each needs, so a price quoted before an examination is invention. Raise financing at the start rather than the end, because what you can carry decides whether the work happens at once or gets staged.

Packages abroad read well on price until you add flights, accommodation, time off, and the fact that everything described above, the day-three phone call and the week-three follow-up, becomes an airport instead of a drive up I-270. Ask any clinic what happens if something looks wrong at week three. That answer tells you most of what you need to know about how the rest of it will go.

One thing to settle at this stage: ask where the surgery physically happens. Here the operating rooms and recovery space are in the same building as the consultation, so the room you sat in is the room you come back to. A lot of cosmetic surgery in this country is sold at one address and performed at another, and patients tend to discover that late. Ask early, wherever you are considering.

If you are still choosing a clinic: check the licence, ask how many of your specific procedure they do in a normal month, and look at results on people who started where you are starting rather than ten kilos lighter. Ask who is actually operating, and what happens if that surgeon becomes unavailable, because at busy practices the answer sometimes changes closer to the date.
